Out of all the joints in the human body, the knee is probably the most complex. Being made up of over 8 different parts which perform several different movements, the fact that knee injuries and knee pain are common should come as no surprise. The medical field has done amazing research in finding the many reasons associated with knee pain and doctors are usually able to work with their patients to determine what type of path should be taken to work towards recovery.

The most common reason for having pain on the inside of your knee actually has nothing do with your daily routine, or exercising habits, but in the amount of water you drink in a day. That’s right, staying properly hydrated! The average person needs a daily amount of water at the following rate: take your body weight and divide that number by 2. For example, if you weight 140 pounds, divide that by 2, and you get 70. This is the amount of ounces your body requires of water everyday.

Although it is very much related to the previous explanation, another reason for pain on the inside of your knee is having weak kidneys. By keeping an eye on how much water you drink, making sure you eat wise diet choices, you can often remedy both of these on your own without having to consult your doctor. But if you drink enough water, and eat a relatively healthy diet, you need to talk to your doctor to make sure that there is not an infection or injury that is causing your pain.

Out of all the many uses for your knees, “shock absorbers” when never meant to be one of them. Many people take up running without even taking into account the many aspects of it. As you run, you are constantly putting stress on the many components in your knees. The moving parts expand then collide with each other with each jolting step you take. If your knees hurt when you run, you need to re-examine your running equipment and routine. Make sure that you have the proper foot wear. Your sneakers should be new and tailored to your individual needs. Also, if your routine consists of running on concrete, you should probably try to develop a new routine that allows you to run on asphalt instead. This is because asphalt has some give in it, concrete does not.

If you take those precautions and still have problems with pain on the inside of your knee, you should contact your doctor or see a sports medicine specialist. If they are able to diagnose and fix your problem early, chances are it won’t get any worse and over time you will be able to return to the many physical activities you were able to enjoy before you encountered your knee problems.
